Why do we need braces?

Braces are used to straighten or move teeth, to improve their appearance. They are most often used for children and teenagers, but they can also be used for adult patients. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth, braces may be a solution.

For orthodontic treatments we usually refer patients to a local, qualified orthodontist, although some cases are treated within the practice, working with a company called RX Aligners.

What kinds of braces are available?

Some types of braces are removable, others are not. Removable braces are normally used over a period of 6 to 9 months, Fixed braces are normally worn for around 18 months, during which time the patient will make regular visits to the dentist every 6 to 8 weeks so that the progress of the treatment can be monitored. It is vital to keep the mouth clean around the brace.
